✹ Create your hue
Every alma tote bag is dyed by hand ~ slowly, consciously, and just for you.
This is where you choose your plant, your pattern ~ your palette.
Each combination becomes a one-of-a-kind creation: a little piece of wearable nature.
✹ PLANT-BASED COLORS
Here’s a peek at some of the plants we use:
✿ Onion skins (Allium cepa)
Yes, that onion! The same humble peel hiding layers of unexpected beauty. Onion skins create warm, golden ochres that glow like sunlight on skin ~ a reminder that even the simplest ingredients can hold extraordinary color.
✿ Madder root (Rubia tinctorum)
Madder is one of the oldest known dyestuffs. On fabric, it produces deep, rich reds with an earthy, grounding warmth ~ each batch carrying the depth and soul of the root.
✿ Marigold (Tagetes erecta)
Marigold blooms with joy. Its petals give bright, cheerful yellows with a soft, sunlit glow ~ a gentle pop of color that feels alive and luminous.
✿ Himalayan Rhubarb (Rheum emodi)
From the roots of a mountain rhubarb that grows in the Himalayas, this dye gives golden-orange tones with hints of warmth and spice ~ like autumn light captured in fabric.
You can also mix two colors together if you’d like something more fluid and unexpected ~ nature loves to surprise.
✹ TIE-DYE PATTERNS
Each pattern begins with a simple gesture ~ a fold, a knot, a twist; shaping how color will dance across the fabric.
You can choose one of these three techniques (or we can improvise together):
✿ Sun Circles
Soft circular blooms that radiate like sunlight ~ created by folding and binding the fabric in gentle rings.
✿ Galaxy Scrunch
Chaotic, alive, and full of movement. A spontaneous scrunch technique that creates swirling constellations of tone and shade.
✿ Flow Lines
Horizontal tied knots that create fluid, wave-like patterns ~ classic, timeless, and meditative.

✹ HOW IT WORKS
Once your order is placed, I’ll prepare your tote especially for you — dyeing it slowly and consciously here in the studio.
Each piece is made to order, so it’s not ready to ship immediately.
There’s a single purchase option — simply add a note at checkout with your chosen plant (color) and tie-dye pattern (print).
Each tote will then be created just for you — your color, your pattern, your story.
✹ COLOUR
Colour is alive.
What you see on screen is only an interpretation ~ cameras and monitors all translate shades differently.
Your tote’s color might shift once it’s in your hands, and that’s part of the beauty.
Natural dyes don’t behave like paints ~ they react: to the fibres, the water, the season, even the temperature of the day or the touch of the hands that made them.
A small change in the dye bath can shift everything and that’s what makes each piece unique.
